Complain about the firmware update of LG360camera

2016(last yer) many people are curious about 360 degree camera and virtual reality and the number of 360 camera user is still increasing.

I was using Ricoh Theta S 360camera and that one was hard to get in here Korea at that time.
So when I was in Japan I bought it and using it with fun. 

And there was a event of LG360camera by LG, SBS(Korean broadcast company).

I joined it and luckily I got the LG 360 camera for free.

Meanwhile there was a firmware update for some functions like timelapse
So I tried it. 

But I couldn't update it by any method.
I surfed web and found lot of videos of it's firmware update tutorial
so I thought it's just hard thing to do.
But it was not the reason for it.

So I called Lg electronics service center to get an answer.
they told me that I can get the update by visiting the center.
So I went there but they told me that they need to call company.
Finally I can't get the answer on that day and waited.....
almost 2 weeks.
They told me the company didn't answer them yet.













So finally I called company and asked them directly again.
and the answer was
I can't get update since it's and event product, doesn't have a serial number.

It took about 1 month to get an answer.
Actually I though to buy a new 360 cams from different companies.
So it was not a big matter but I was abit angry.
If they told me about it well earlier, it was not annoying.

So I'm complaining on here.

Lg 360 camera has some good points to use like it's hard case and comfortable small stick design for easy use.
Although they don't care about users much I think.
If I knew that I can't update it, I didn't join that event.

And if someone who use that device and joining the event, they must be heavy users I think.
They need to care them more.
It can occur good things to the brand

LG 360 카메라 펌웨어 업데이트에 대한 불만

2016년 당시 VR 가상현실과 360도 영상에 대한 많은 관심들이 있었죠. 

저 역시 당시 국내에서 사기 힘든 장비였던  360도 카메라가 갖고 싶어

일본에 가서 리코세타S 를 구매해서 사용하고 있었습니다. 

마침 LG전자와 SBS가 UCC제작 공모전을 연다길래 저도 참여했습니다.

몇 명의 인원에겐 장비도 지원해 준다길래 솔깃했죠. 

공모전에 참가해서 감사하게도 LG360도 카메라를 받게 되어

사진도 많이 찍고 영상도 많이 찍고 잘 사용하고 있었습니다. 

그러던 중 타임랩스랑 기타 기능 관련 펌웨어 업데이트 공지가 있어 

펌웨어 업데이트를 받으려고 했죠.

그런데 이상하게 업데이트 진행이 안 되는 겁니다. 

인터넷에 업데이트 관련 안내가 많이 나와있길래

좀 복잡해서 안 되는 건줄 알았어요.

여러 사이트를 돌아다녀보고 외국 사이트에 가서 확인도 해봤지만

절대로 안 되더라구요. 

결국 LG전자 서비스센터에 전화를 해보니

서비스센터에 직접 찾아가면 받을 수 있을 거라고 하더군요. 

그래서 센터를 방문했지만 

업데이트가 안되고 본사에 확인을 해봐야겠다고 하더군요. 

하지만 당일에 확인이 안 되길래 며칠 기다렸습니다. 

약 2주를 기다렸지만 답이 없어 전화를 했더니 본사에서 답을 안 준다고 하더군요.

결국 본사에 직접 문의를 했더니 돌아온 답은 

사전사용 제품은 시리얼번호가 없어서 업데이트가 불가능하다고 하더군요. 

이 답을 듣는데 거의 한 달 정도의 시간이 걸렸어요.

사실 새로 출시된 타사 제품들을 좀 구매해서 사용해볼 생각이 있어 

큰 미련은 없었지만 

진작에 업데이트가 어렵다고 답을 들었다면 

좀 덜 서운하게 그냥 업데이트 안 하고 사용했을텐데

불만이 생기더군요.

하드케이스라던가 제품디자인이 다른 제품에 비해서 사용성이 높아

업데이트 해서 좀 꾸준히 사용할 생각이었는데

시리얼 번호가 없어서 업데이트가 안된다는 건 사용자 배려가 너무 부족한 거 아닌가 라는 생각이 들어요. 

제품이벤트 공모전에 참여해서 제품을 사용할 정도의 사람들이라면

제품을 여러 방법으로 사용하고 

다양한 리뷰나 홍보효과를 가져다 줄 수 있는 사람들일텐데요. 

그런 유저들이 단순한 업데이트 문제로 제품에게서 멀어지게 하다니 문제가 있다고 생각합니다. 

좀 더 사용자를 배려해주면 좋겠네요.

How to cover tripod(bottom) of 360 VR video

Dynamite Korean here.
In this article we are going to learn how to make cover image for the tripod(bottom) in 360 VR video.

Prepare the 360 VR video first.(with 360cams or others)
-I'm gonna post up the recording experience in other article.
I used Adobe Photoshop CC for this work.

When you make 360 VR video uncomfortable thing follows you every time.
It's you, yourself(or tripod) that comes up at the bottom of the video.

You can see you(tripod) in the video.

So in here we gonna learn how to cover you(tripod) with the image.(which you made or you have form others)

360 VR video is not a flat image so it's hard to use the image that you want on it.
I searched the way to do that by google or some Korean blogs but it was really hard to find it. Because not many people are using 360 VR video yet.
Anyway I found it how to do. :)

So I'm gonna clean all the info that I know in here to make the cover image.

Prepare the image that you gonna use for the covering.

This is the logo image of Dynamite korean page. for ad~

When you put the 360 VR video on the editing tool like Sony Vegas, Adobe Premiere, etc the flat imaged video will come out for editing.

The cameras that I'm using has 2 lenses in 1 camera.

So the image(video &photo) need to be stitched by software.

And they have different resolutions.

-Ricoh Theta S : FHD 1920*960

-LG360Cam : 2K 2560*1280

I don't know why but 360cam video has 2:1 ratio.

(I need to have 4K now, I need to buy Samsung 4K now.)

Let's go to main part now. :)

I need 360 image for photoshop so capture 1 part for checking the cover image.

and play the photoshop with same canvas size as your flat 360 VR video.

ex) for LG360Cam : 2560*1280

you need to start it with the size as flattened video. 

Put captured image from video into photoshop and change the image ratio to 1:1. 

(to 2560*2560 pixels) by menu-image-image size

and after that rotate the image 180 degree by menu-image-image rotation-180.

Since the tripod is at the bottom of the video we need to rotate it.

It might be hard to understand but after you do some works with this you may understand what I mean.

(Frankly I didn't understand why I need to do this.) 

If you put the camera on the ceiling,you don't need to rotate the image. :)

 You can see the difference between rotated one and other one.

Now let's change the flat image to 360VR image(distorted) by menu-filter-distort-polar coordinate-rec to polar.

Then put the cover image on you(tripod).

 You need to put the cover image after change the image to 360VR.

Now flat the image again by distort-polar to rec.

At this time your cover image will be automatically changed too.

But you can't change both two image(captured photo & cover image) at the same time.

So change it one by one please.

Edit it one by one.

Yes! It's done!

Now you can see competed image on your monitor.

Then change the image ratio back to 2:1.

Although you rotate the image again the edited cover image won't be rotated cause the size of it is different from video image.

Please rotate the image after you save it into png image(as watermark).

The image is rotated 180 degree so the left & right can go opposite to the image that you need. 

So check it well and use it. :)

You may put the edited image on the video for editing.

Now we can use this watermark(alpha image)on the video.

It is so long article cause I need to talk alot with detailed explanation.

360도 VR 영상 바닥(삼각대) 가리는 방법_커버 이미지 넣기

다이너마이트코리안 입니다. 오늘은 요즘 많은 관심을 받고 있는 360도 VR 영상 만들기에 대해 알아보겠습니다.
360카메라 등으로 촬영하여 만든 영상을 준비해주시구요.
(이후 따로 촬영기 올리겠습니다.)
Adobe 포토샵 photoshop CC를 사용하여 작업해보았습니다.

360도 영상을 만들다 보면 가장 불편한 점 중 하나가 바로 촬영자(혹은 촬영자의 손)이나 삼각대가 영상에 등장하게 되는 점인데요.

(촬영자나 삼각대가 영상(사진)에 나타나게 됩니다. ㅜ.ㅜ)

그래서 오늘은 촬영자의 손과 삼각대를 여러분이 직접 만든 이미지나 기타 이미지로 가리는(커버링) 작업에 대해
저와 함께 알아보겠습니다.
360도 영상은 영상의 특성상 구현되는 이미지가 평면이 아니라서
이미지를 디자인하여 추가하는 것이 쉽지 않습니다.
저도 어떻게 해야 하나 고민하다가 여러 정보를 찾아봤는데요.
아직 360도 영상이 대중화가 되지 않았다 보니
검색을 통해서 정보를 구하기가 여간 쉽지 않았습니다.
그래도 구글링과 각종 360도 영상 커뮤니티 등등 전전하여
겨우겨우 정보를 얻어 방법을 찾아내는데 성공하였습니다.
 
여러 곳을 통해 얻은 정보를 여기 제 블로그에서 정리해드리겠습니다.
우선 커버 이미지로 영상에 넣을 이미지가 필요합니다.
각자 원하는 이미지를 준비해주세요.

360영상을 Adobe의 Premiere 프리미어나 Sony의 Vegas 베가스 등의 편집툴에 집어넣으면

우리가 일반적으로 사용하는 영상처럼 사각형으로 펼쳐져서 나타납니다.

제가 사용하고 있는 카메라들의 경우
스티치Stich(카메라 1대에 2개의 렌즈를 사용하므로 촬영 후 소프트웨어를 이용하여 영상을 결합)
이후에
Ricoh Theta S의 경우 FHD로 1920*960의 해상도로
LG360캠의 경우 2k로 2560*1280의 해상도로 구현됩니다.
360 영상들은 가로*세로의 비율이 2:1 이더군요.
삼성 4K 카메라도 어서 써보고 싶네요. 하나 더 구매를……@.@

이제 본격적으로 작업을 시작해보겠습니다.
먼저 사각형의 영상을 캡쳐합니다.(360캠으로 촬영된 사진을 사용하셔도 됩니다.)
캡쳐한 이미지를 포토샵을 실행시켜 작업할 준비를 합니다.
이 때 캔버스 사이즈를 작업할 영상의 사이즈에 맞게 지정해주세요.
예)LG360캠의 경우 2560*1280 으로 지정합니다.

촬영된 영상과 같은 사이즈로 작업파일을 지정합니다.

영상에서 캡쳐한 이미지를 집어넣고 2:1 비율에서 1:1 비율로 전환합니다.(2560*2560 으로)
(상단메뉴 image-image size)
1:1 비율로 전환후 이미지를 상하반전(뒤집기) 시킵니다.
(뒤집기는 상단 메뉴중 image-image rotation-180도 를 사용하시면 됩니다.)
삼각대 부분이 아래에 있기 때문입니다.
이해가 안 되실 수도 있지만 작업을 해보시면 이유가 이해되실 겁니다.
(전 처음에 왜 뒤집어야 하는지 도무지 이해를 못 했습니다.ㅜ.ㅜ)
카메라를 천정에 매달아서 찍으셨다면 굳이 뒤집지 않으셔도 되겠죠.ㅎㅎ

같은 이미지를 뒤집냐 안 뒤집냐에 따라 이런 차이가 나타납니다.

이제 이미지를 360이미지로 전환시키고

(상단메뉴 filter-distort-polar coordinate-rec to polar)사용할 커버 이미지를 집어넣습니다.

원래 이미지를 1:1로 전환한 후에 커버이미지를 넣으셔야 합니다.

이제 왜곡distort를 이용해 이미지를 평면으로 돌려주면(상단메뉴 filter-distort-polar coordinate-polar to rec)알맞은 비율로 커버이미지도 전환되게 됩니다.다만 한번에 2개의 레이어layer가 모두 전환되지 않으니1번에 1개씩 작업해 주세요.

자 완성되었습니다.
상단에 왜곡된(distort) 이미지가 보이시죠?
이제 작업된 이미지를 다시 2:1로 바꿔줍니다.
(이미지를 뒤집어도 사이즈가 달라서 워터마크(커버이미지)는 뒤집어지지 않습니다.
PNG파일로 저장하시고 나서 뒤집어 주세요.
그리고 상하반전값만 주었기 때문에 좌우가 반대로 되어있을 수 있습니다. 사용하시는 방향에 맞춰 좌우반전값도 주시기 바랍니다.)

영상 편집시 펼쳐진 영상위에 덮어씌워 사용하시면 됩니다.

이제 앞으로 저흰 저 워터마크(알파이미지)를 사용하면 됩니다.

내용을 좀 자세하게 설명드리려다 보니 많이 길어졌네요.
그래도 보시고 천천히 잘 따라하시면 충분히 쉽게 작업하실 수 있을 거라 생각합니다.
